CHS senior to continue swimming career at CU

Campbellsville High School senior Isabella Osborne recently became the school’s first-ever athlete to sign a letter of intent to swim at Campbellsville University.

Osborne will begin classes and training at CU this fall.

She was recently honored in a special ceremony with family and friends.

CHS Principal Weston Jones said Osborne has worked hard to compete at the college level.

“I think the world of her,” he said.

Jones said Osborne was once a member of his softball team at CHS. She is also a cheerleader.

“I just want to say, congratulations Isabella,” he said. “We wish you the best.”

CHS swim coach Steve Doss said Osborne was one of the first students to participate when he began building the CHS swim program.

As such, Osborne has swam on the CHS team since she was a fifth-grader.

And now, Doss said, because of eligibility changes, she is one of the last students who will have had the opportunity to swim for that many years.

“She is a first and she is a last,” he said.

Doss said Osborne started as a green swimmer, but with a skill set and was easily coached.

He said she now ranks as one of the fastest freestyle swimmers in CHS history.

“I can’t say enough about what she’s meant to me,” he said.

Doss said Osborne has worked hard, through academics, softball, cheerleading and swimming, and has become a fine young lady.

“I’m glad she’s going to stick close to home,” he said.

Doss said the CU swim coaches will get the most out of Osborne.

“There’s nothing better than being an athlete as a freshman,” he said. “You get the best of everything.”

CU swim head coach Casey Bradstreet said she is excited to have Osborne join her roster.

Bradstreet said Osborne interacts well with her teammates, and she looks for that in her swimmers.

“We want to see who you are as a person,” she said. “How you care for your teammates. And how you take instruction.”

Bradstreet said it’s important that athletes be coachable.

“We think that Isabella is going to be a really good fit,” she said.

“I’m excited to see what we can do together.”
