7th-8th Grade Art

View Events/Assignments for

In our 7th/8th grade art classes we will begin with the basics. We will start with learning rules and procedures then move on to introducing ourselves using art. We will learn how to communicate with art and why art is important. We will talk a lot about the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. Hopefully, you are already aware of these so that we can move on to other concepts. But if not, that's OK, too...because, either way, we will make stuff. That's the best part, right?

Please, check the syllabus and rubric in the "Forms/Links" area. The syllabus outlines my expectations for you and for myself. The rubric is a basic grading scale for this class. For certain projects the rubric may be different, in which case that will be explained prior to beginning the project. If you ever have any questions concerning a project and/or grade, please, feel free to contact me at joann.harris@cville.kyschools.us or text/call me at 270-403-4733. I want you to have a great semester in art and will do whatever I can to ensure that you do. But, you have to do your part; come to class prepared with pencil and notebook in hand, a good work ethic and positive attitude and we will have a great time!

      • Syllabus
The syllabus outlines expectations for the middle school art student and for myself. Art is a class just like any other with rules and grades. Rules and procedures which apply in other middle school classes also apply here. It is a good idea for you to be aware of these from the beginning. A copy will also be sent home with the student on the first day of class.
      • Rubric
The rubric is designed to offer a standardized manner of grading projects. Projects are not graded on talent or natural ability as this is a general art class. There will be a wide range of abilities. Therefore, grades will be based on participation, effort and creativity. The rubric offers details on that system. Occasionally, the rubric will be different from this standard one. In that case, the system will be discussed prior to beginning the project.
