My name is Jo Ann Harris and I teach art at Campbellsville Middle and High Schools. In our 6th/8th grade Middle School General Art classes we will begin with the basics. We will start with learning rules and procedures then move on to introducing ourselves using art. We will learn how to communicate with art and why art is important. We will talk a lot about the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. Hopefully, you are already aware of these so that we can move on to other concepts. But if not, that's OK, too...because, either way, we will make stuff. That's the best part, right?
Later this summer I will post the syllabus and a rubric, plus make email contact with your parents/guardians. The syllabus outlines my expectations for you and for myself. The rubric is a basic grading scale for this class. For certain projects the rubric may be different, in which case that will be explained prior to beginning the project.
Students, I want you to have a great semester in art and will do whatever I can to ensure that you do. But, you have to do your part; come to class prepared with wooden lead pencil (no mechanical pencils, please) and notebook in hand, a good work ethic and positive attitude and we will have a great time!
Parents/guardians, if you ever have any questions concerning a project, grade or something going on in class, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or text/call me after school hours at 270-403-4733. We have zero tolerance for bullying. And, in the art classroom, we will spend a large portion of the first class learning how to discuss our own and each other's artwork with respect and kindness. We will also revisit this discussion periodically throughout the year.
If you have Facebook, "like" our page with the ridiculously long name of Campbellsville Middle and High School Amazing Arts. I will be posting pics of student artists at work and their finished products along with other information. Comment or like the pics so that students who monitor the page will see that you are noticing them and what they are doing in art.
