CMS to host dance to benefit local children, hurricane victims

Campbellsville Middle School students will host a dance to raise money for local children and those who lost their belongings as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

The dance is set for Friday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the CMS multi-purpose room.

Admission is $5 and concessions will be sold.

Proceeds will be given to Hurricane Matthew victims and the local Toys for Kids organization.

Toys for Kids organizers collect money and purchase toys for children in the Campbellsville community who otherwise might not receive Christmas gifts.

This isn’t the only fundraiser CMS students are organizing to benefit those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

Now through Friday, Dec. 9, students can purchase coloring pages for 50 cents each.

The students who color the best pages will win prizes, and all money collected will go toward Hurricane Matthew victims.

First prize will receive two free tickets to an upcoming school dance. Second place will receive a candy bar and soft drink. And the third place winner will receive a candy bar.

CMS seventh-graders Brooklyn Davis and Sumara Berry are leading the coloring contest.

Students are also collecting bottled water, first aid items, gloves, new socks, tissues, hand sanitizer, winter supplies, mosquito nets, blankets, cleaning supplies, paper products and new toothbrushes and toothpaste.

To donate supplies or money, contact the CMS office at (270) 465-5121.
