Accelerated Reader Grading Policy

Campbellsville Middle School
Accelerated Reader Grading Policy

Accelerated Reader points for all students at Campbellsville Middle School will be attained through the use of Accelerated Reader tests.  The total number of points each student must obtain will be based upon their grade equivalent score on the STAR Reader test, which will be administered in Reading class unless a grade does not teach Reading during the school day.  In that case, Language Arts teachers will be responsible for administering STAR Reader and monitoring AR points and grades.  The STAR Reader test will be given within the first two weeks of the first semester and again the last two weeks of school to monitor student progress and determine the student’s reading range.  Students will be required to select and read books within their range. Students choosing to read at a reading level above their range must obtain prior approval from their Reading/Language Arts teacher.

AR Policy Amendment   (Revised June 13th, 2012/Adopted June 20th 2012)
1) All students would take the STAR test and would be required to get the assigned points up to 12 points at which a cap would be set for grading purposes.
*A student may continue to earn points for reward levels as the cap will be set for the 9 weeks grade.
*Points would only carry over for achievement levels for the semester and year but not for the next 9 week’s grade.
2) Students must get points from books that are within two grade levels of their AR reading level up through the 8th grade reading level. Ex. A student reading on an 8th grade level must read books that are 6th grade level or higher.
3) The students will receive a 100 point test grade for AR each 9 weeks. Ex- A student that gets 7 points out of the 12 will receive a 58% test score to be averaged in with the rest of the grades.
4) No test retakes.
Reward categories will be established for the end of the semester and end of the year for cumulative point categories:

Semester:
50 point reward category-
100 point reward category-
200 point reward category-
End of year:
50 point reward category-
100 point reward category-
200 point reward category-

*Cumulative points for rewards would be kept in the library

**Reading levels would be established at the beginning of the year and kept on file in the library so students would stay within two grade levels of their most up to date reading level assessment.
Students may take AR tests in the library or with supervision on teacher computers.
Students may take only one test per day
