CHS senior appointed to U.S. Naval Academy

Campbellsville High School senior Bryce Richardson has been appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Richardson, who will graduate in May, applied to attend the academy on a nomination from U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky.

The academy, which is located in Annapolis, Md., is a four-year program to prepare men and women for careers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy.

After completing the academy, students graduate with Bachelor of Science degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps.

Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years in the Navy or Marine Corps.

To apply to attend the academy, applications must be nominated from an official source, complete college entrance exams, a medical examination and a fitness assessment, submit a transcript and undergo an interview.

Richardson will be inducted into the academy on June 28.

Comer visited CHS on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to congratulate Richardson and discuss his future plans.

Richardson is the son of Jeff Richardson, who is director of pupil personnel and food service at Campbellsville Independent Schools, and Dr. Marlene Richardson.
