Long-time CIS employee honored

Campbellsville Independent Schools recently honored one of its long-time employees.

Kay Cox, director of pupil personnel and food service secretary, recently retired after 36 years of service.

She was honored with a reception, and many of her former co-workers, family members and friends attended.

Cox graduated from CHS in 1974, and was a cheerleader, dance team member and class officer.

She began working for CIS during the 1981-1982 school year, and has since.

At the reception, CIS Superintendent Kirby Smith thanked Cox for her service.

“Thirty-six years, that’s a long time,” he said. “To see everybody come back just says what you have meant to this District.”

Smith said Cox always had a smile on her face and performed her job well.

“We appreciate that,” he said.

“And I know just in my short amount of time as superintendent, I think I speak for a lot of people, I’m sorry that I’m not going to have more time, because I really enjoyed that.”

Cox was presented with a plaque to thank her for her service.

It reads, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”

Cox said the District has been her life.

“Thank you all for being my friends,” she said. “I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless, for once.”

Cox said she is going to enjoy spending time with her children and grandchildren.

“Thank you all very much, and I’m going to miss you.”
