CHS students teach computer coding

Campbellsville High School students recently taught elementary school students how to write computer coding.

As part of the Hour of Code initiative, a group of Student Technology Leadership Program students taught Campbellsville Elementary School third-graders in Patty Haley’s class about computer coding.

The CHS students told the third-graders that learning computer coding can help them in their future careers.

They then led a hands-on activity in which the elementary school students wrote computer codes and portrayed robots to test the codes for accuracy.

The activity was part of Computer Science Education Week.

As part of the week, students worldwide were encouraged to participate in an Hour of Code, a hands-on experience learning to write computer code.

More than 750 of Kentucky’s schools, businesses and organizations participated in the Hour of Code.

In 2013, when the initiative began, there were 30 events.
